Apple picking seasonSeptember 25, 2017
Apple picking season is among us and along with it, the desire to escape to an orchard for an afternoon. Apple picking is definitely a popular activity these days. Whether it’s with family, friends or your significant other, it's easy to spend a full day at the orchard, and it's the perfect excuse to spend some time outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather.
We ourselves could not resist the urge to capture the soft and characteristic light of the first days of autumn at the Roka Domains orchard. Nestled at the foot of Mont-Saint-Grégoire, in the city of the same name, the Roka farm specializes in the production of organic apples and grows each season up to eight varieties (they are also supplying the organic applesauce we use to sweeten our granola mixes!). It is also the perfect place for a apple picking getaway, since the site is perfectly adapted for visitors, offering guided tours for groups.
The Roka farm also produces and sells delicious juices, compotes, purees and apple cider vinegars, all of which are organic, naturally. However, what we prefer above everything else is to fill our bag with carefully selected apples and take them home to bake pies, crumbles and other delicacies. The apple is actually one of the most versatile fruits in the kitchen and it can easily be added to just about any recipe. It also has many health benefits, which we have already presented on the blog. Thus, all the reasons are good to go apple picking, especially the fact that they taste even better when we pick them up ourselves!
