A truly unique substance whether it is by its composition and origin, honey has been consumed by the human kind since the beginning of time. It was still used not so long ago to treat cuts and burns, its extraordinary antibacterial properties known for accelerating the healing by preventing infections.
However, honey is probably best known for its low-calorie, all natural sweetener quality, rendering it a true foodie staple. The best friend of sore throats
Remember your grandmother instructing you to add a spoonful of honey to a glass of water to soothe your sore throat? Well, she was not wrong! Thanks to its antiseptic properties, honey will relieve even the most irritated throats. It also calms coughing in a similar way to commercial syrups by creating a protective layer on the throat, preventing the irritation in cause.

As opposite to most sweeteners, honey is full of vitamin E, vitamin C and antioxidants. These latter boost the immune system and help the body fight cold and flu symptoms. The darker the honey, the more antioxidants it contains, so make sure to keep that in mind when making your choice!
A skin and hair magnifier
While honey is nowadays primarily consumed as food, its external use can also be very beneficial, especially for skin and hair. Used as a mask, honey helps absorb and retain water, making it an excellent moisturizer. Honey also helps fight acne and dandruff, and some will even add a small amount to their bath for a relaxing and luxurious experience!
