First discovered in South America, Christopher Columbus had brought the pineapple back to Europe. Formerly considered as a very expensive fruit that only wealthy families could afford, pineapple is now a popular food found in homes all over the world.

This tropical plant comes in several kinds, although its most cultivated variety is the Smooth Cayenne, which we can find in our North-American markets. Pineapple is a winter fruit, best consumed from November to March. As for its benefits, the list is endless. It would definitely make all of those « super fruits » blush thanks to its amazing composition!

Pineapple is best known for its active substance, bromelain, an enzyme that helps naturally fight against cancer cells. To this day, this fruit is the only known source of this enzyme. Also rich in manganese and vitamin C, eating pineapple will help protect your bones whilst preventing fatigue, colds and small infections.
